![]() IntroductionWe need to improve our health care system. It is too costly and does not cover everyone. We as individuals are primarily responsibe for our health, but when we are sick or have an accident, someone else must come to our aide. I feel that it is the responsibility of the federal government to put in place a system to cover these emergencies. EducationIf the nation is to have a good medical system, it must invest in education of the people who make it work. To encourage young people to invest their time and energy in a medical education, the government should invest its money. In return it could require payoff in appropriate public service. The federal government should subsidize the education of physicians, nurses, medical administrators , emergency technicians, and laboratory specialist. The general public needs to recieve continuing quality medical education so individuals can fulfill their personal responsibilities for their health. Relying on pharmaceutical advertisinments is absurd. The cost of obtaining a medical education has been spiraling upward for the past 20 years. Despite a lot of rhetoric in articles and at meetings of the Association of American Medical Colleges, nothing has happened to change the alarming pattern. The average tuition and fees at public medical schools during the 2003–2004 academic year amounted to $16,153, and the corresponding figure for private schools was $32,588.3 Adding $20,000 to $25,000 for living expenses, books, and equipment brings the estimated cost of four years of attendance to about $140,000 for public schools and $225,000 for private schools. (2007) About $500 to see a doctor, then add lab tests, x-rays, etc. See your family doctor if it is not a true emergency. There is a reason why they are called EMERGENCY ROOMS... There are walk-in clinics everywhere. You get the same treatment at half the price! And are not taking up space when someone's life may be at stake, and truly NEED the ER. I've heard the new triage system evaluates your symptoms and can even refuse to admit you to the ER, referring you to your family doctor, where you should probly go in the first place. A lot of people will go to the ER because they think they can't be refused, and think they can be seen at NO cost to them. And if they went to their own doctor, they may have to pay a co-pay or office visit, and even have to take a prescription to their local pharmacy and have to buy their own meds. Whaa...Whaaaa!!!! Go to a doctor's office if is not an emergency!! And help keep our insurance cost down. It is because of people like you who go to the ER when their pee burns, or they stump their toe, that medical care costs so much!! And insurance premiums are so high!!Consumer Health Ratings![]() |
