Important Issues

Introduction

The citizens of the world as a whole face many problems today. To many people, these problems may seem insurmountable. I certainly cannot quarantee that we will come to satisfactory solutions. However, I think that there are positive steps we can take to vastly improve our situation. The answers lie in recognition of the problems, world wide education, and cooperation. We have the technology, we need the will. This is an attempt to help attain some perspective and guide us in taking suitable action. As you read about these issues you should ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I know enough to voice an opinion?
  • Who will decide this for me?
  • Who can I trust?
  • What should I be doing about this?
  • Can I afford to wait and do nothing?
  • ADD YOUR OWN QUESTIONS

Population

All of our problems are aggravated by the continuous growth in world population. This can be reversed by lower birth rate and shorter lives. If this problem is not cured volunteerly, war, pestilence and famine will painfully resolve the issue.

Global Warming

Global warming appears to be a serious problem. We may not be able to reverse the warming trend. The science is considered controversial by some. However, the actions to be taken are in line with solving many of our other problems. Ther is no excuse for putting off action.

Environmental Pollution

Notice the interconnection between population and pollution. Notice the link between "Prosperity" and pollution.

Natural Disasters

We must all work together to cope with natural disasters. We don't know what is comming next. Those who have the most may be the ones least prepared.

Education

We have only scratched the surface when it comes to education. Learning to read and write is only the beginning. We must learn what to read. How do we recognize the truth? How can we avoid being misled and controlled by others? How can each of us contribute to the worlds knowlege and wisdom?

Renewable Energy

Sustaining our culture requires that we learn to power it from sustainable energy resources. The resources are limited, the demands excesive. It seems obvious to me that some of us must decrease our energy consumption drastically and rapidly to meet the challenge. Those of us who have prospered need to look at where our money comes from and where it goes.

Oil Depletion

Oil Consumption

Nuclear War

End of the World

Consumerism

Global Issues

Poverty

This can be eradicated by gaining knowledge through education, working hard and smartly, avoiding laziness, not being choosy when it comes to doing work i.e. some people only go for white collar jobs and down look other jobs, helping the needy in the society so that they can better their lives can also eradicate poverty.

Diseases

This can be avoided by advising people to eat healthy to avoid diseases associated with malnutrition such as marasmus and kwashiorkor, keeping warm to avoid pneumonia, being morally upright to avoid STD’S.

Unemployment

This can be solved through self employment, being innovative and self motivated.

Gender Equality

This can be done through treating all human beings the same irrespective of gender i.e educating girls rather than leaving them to do household chores, giving them rights when it comes to job opportunities, politics.

Traditions

Avoid sticking to traditions that bind us such as men are the only ones allowed to make decisions in the family, men are the only ones supposed to provide food for the family, female circumcision, early marriages.

Tribalism

This can be solved through relating to one another regardless of the tribe and learning to co-exist.

Bottled Water

Bottled water is expensive, of questionable value, is an assult on the environment, and is the result of rampant consumerism.
