Introduction The United States of America is currently (June 2010) facing many serious challenges. I personnaly see creating a sustainable world economy as the prime long term goal. Short term the problem is ongoing war and jobs. Here are some ideas that I believe will be helpful.
Peaceful Market for Military/Industrial Complex The Military/Industrial complex is largely responsible for our continuing engagement in hostilities. As long as it is easy to sell high priced military products to the federal government, we will have wars to use them. Selling weapon systems, military bases and Veterans Hospitals has been integrated into our system of political spoils. On the other hand, the market for peaceful products, medical service, roads, schools, food, government services, etc. is much more fragmented because the buyers are distributed among many local and state governments and other organizations. Develop easy markets for peaceful products to replace munitions. At present it is easy to sell munitions and weapons to a concentrated customer such as the federal government whereas selling peaceful products such as health maintenance, transportation and education is difficult since the market is distributed among states, counties large and small enterprises,and individuals.
Stop Usury Many people in this country are angry with our banks and the financial system with good reason. People are carrying a tremendous credit card debt at high interest rates. This has an adverse effect on their ability or desire to buy consumer goods. These interest payments take money from those who are most in need and funnels it to the rich and powerful who produce nothing. Protect the low income credit consumer from usery in its various guises. The family living hand to mouth must be saved from financial murder.
Stop Exploiting and Build Community Hundreds of billions of dollars are spent on advertising in this country. Much of the advertising is aimed at promoting sales of items that are unneeded or harmful are at spreading misinformation. Redirect the marketing industry away from exploiting the weaknesses of the human psyche and toward building strength in the community.
Convert Combat Forces to Education Whereever feasible, convert combat forces to educational roles. They can teach, continue their education or do research. The alternative to militive service need not be unemployment.
Construction and Emergency Management Build infrastructure engineering force to replace military combat forces. Decrease the emphasis on combat and weapons. Increase the emphasis on intelligence, communication and tools. Teach your troops how to disarm your opponents through friendly persuasion and cooperation.
Ban all cluster munitions and landmines These weapons kill and maime indesciminately and continue to do so long after the conflict has ended. Production should be terminated stock piles destroyed and sales terminated immediately. Develop and market equipment and services for removing all deployed ordinance throughout the world.
Encourage Local Food Production Local food production increases security and independence. It also encourages cooperation and trust.
